Did I miss something? It just seems like a service tech lesson?

I daily drove one for 2-3 weeks and never found it annoying. It was one of the more enjoyable cars to drive.

It seems that Jeremy is just pointing out where all the emergency/manual releases are located, as well as how to/how not to open and close the hood.

Looks like working on it might be a pain in the butt, but honestly... the people buying these probably won't want to have to deal with popping the hood themselves anyway. Just my thought.

Keep in mind that the engine that most people would be working on isn't under the hood...it's under the "trunk/hatch" which is simple to open. The rear hatch has it's own struts and is a simple latch to open like you'd find on any MINI hatch.

Accessing said engine would be difficult...but that's true of all mid/rear engine cars. I don't think many people have much luck "tinkering" with a ferrari engine back there....even Porsches are a pain in their little trunk.

Looked like all the fluid reservoirs were under the hood.
Yes I know most people who buy this would never want or need to open the hood but really, a 8 step procedure requiring two people to open the hood? That's ridiculous

To some extent, it's what you should expect from a car made of composites...there's going to be some flex on the tiny hood. With specialty cars comes special care.

With that said, I think they are being extremely careful because they are techs and they are liable for other peoples' vehicles. I never noticed any issue opening the hood. Naturally I didn't do it often, but I opened just to peek and had no problems.

Oh. I know the gas engine is in the rear. But no one is going to be working on that either. lol. I'm just saying it looks annoying. Even for a mech. The mech is gonna have to all for someone to help him open the hood, etc. Just seems like a different design could have been used. With that said, I think this was intentionally simplistic. 2 pieces of wire for pull levers and a hinge with no prop or gas strut is significantly lighter than a complex mechanical item. That is the whole point of this car. It's light and gets massive MPG's.

On top of all of it, I think it is FAR less annoying than the Ford GT's rear bonnet which ACTUALLY requires 2 people. The i8 could technically be opened with one person with some rick. The Ford GT can't unless you're Stretch Armstrong. haha
