Default Favorite Music Album of 2009?

Not necessarily an album that came out in 2009 but what was your favorite music album from 2009?

Mine was definitely Consolers of the Lonely by the Raconteurs. Showed what Jack White could do with a full band vs. just him and a drummer. One seriously talented mofo to pull off a rock/blues/almost country album that I could not stop listening to. Having the other talented members didn't hurt either.

Second place has to be Death Magnetic from Metallica. Just really brought back heavy metal with enough of a re-invention to not be stale or cheesy.

Honorable mention to the band Kings of Leon. Got their entire catalog this year and they are a great band. Older stuff is way better than that newest album but damn, I really enjoyed them last year.

So how about it?

Kid Cudi : Man on the Moon

honestly I was not terribly impressed by 2009 musically. I have a ton of artists I love that had new CDs and I didn't particularly care for any of them.

EDIT : missed that it didn't need to be MADE this year.

I agree with Death Magnetic from Metallica..

Snob Scrill Day One had me for a while
Muse : Black Holes and Revalations and Uprising both got heavy rotation
Drake : the Official MixTape
Atmosphere : When life gives you lemons

I keep hearing that Kid Cudi is good. Think I'm gonna have to pull the trigger on it.

oooohhh... i love this topic. in no particular order:

phoenix :: wolfgang amadeus :: brought back pop music in the best way ever. 1901 is my personal favorite track on the album. i think i listened to this on repeat for MONTHS.

fck buttons :: tarot sport :: second album by this duo, loved their first... the second is even better. if you haven't had too much exposure to "noise" i highly recommend this album. it's amazing and not too crazy for an intro. lots of mogwai influence... and i <3 <3 <3 mogwai!

andrew bird :: noble beast :: beautiful. that's it. just beautiful. i'm surprised i haven't seen it on more "best of" lists to be honest.

Click the image to open in full size.

passion pit :: manners :: okay at first i didn't really like this, but i forced myself to listen to it and fell in love. i love bleeps and bloopy music... and it's endearing to know that he wrote all these songs for his girlfriend... and then published them. it's so cute it makes me want to barf.

neon indian :: psychic chasms :: holy ****... this is weird weird stuff, but it's really good. it's very surreal and it takes two listens to get into. i didn't get this until the end of the year, but it's definitely one of the best of the year.

the xx :: the xx :: debut album, best song is crystalised.... love the boy girl duo stuff... really really really good.

crystal method :: divide by night :: no explanation needed... it's crystal method!

edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros :: up from below :: i joke that i'm going to get in my covered wagon and mosey down the road when i listen to this album... i'm slightly obsessed with it at the moment. i love the folky-ness of it.

so those are the albums i can think of right now... lots of good singles, but these are good albums that i can listen to from start to finish.

Its a really strange CD in the sense of it's a bit dark and stuff but once you get used to it, its pretty awesome

Alot of it is on here in full to test before you buy.

TBE... Your description of The xx intrigues me. What kind of music is it?

Miike Snow - Miike Snow

I can put any of these albums on when I can't think of anything else to listen to and never get sick of it.

oh... i totally forgot matisyahu! that album is really amazing too.

the xx are indie rock, but have a little bit of electronic... very much shoe-gazer type music but not really shoe-gazer because they are more modern. i would totally check them out. they have a lot of hype right now for being newcomers to watch for.

I feel old now. I totally don't know any of those terms.

I do not think I am "with it" as the kids say.

The kids still say that right?
